"A man who was well ahed of his time. Dire consequences are about to befall America. This book correctly predicted them. Orwell was just a few years early in his estimate."

Shōgun (Asian Saga, #1)

"This story invaded my dreams. It is a book of warriors, for warriors. I passed it around a group of Navy SEALS I used to know and the reviews were all very positive. It also features a strong female character who is exceptional, to say the least."

West with the Night
by
"Beryl Markham was one of the most remarkable women of the 20th Century. I was lucky enough to see her interviewed on a Nairobi TV station just prior to her death. She was utterly fascinating. Being a pilot with several trans Atlantic crossings, most done at night in modern, four-engined aircraft, I can only marvel at the level of skill and courage it took for her to accomplish her flight, west bound against the prevailing winds, at night, in a single engine aircraft. The rest of her life is no less fascinating. She is a truly heroic figure in East African and world history. And, from what my friends at the East African Aero Club at Wilson Field in nairobi related to me, she was quite a character, as well."

"This defined the accidental colonization of South Africa. It was given to me about 1981 by a South African who had fought in the border wars and saw the disaster that is now the reality of South Africa in the making. Je got out in time. Many have not. They are buried there."

"Three of Hewmingway's short stories really stand out. Sonws, The Short Happy Life of Francis macomber, and A Clean Well Lighted Place. When life has hammered me into the ground again for the umpteenth time, I pick up something by Hemingway and always find it as fresh now as it was the day it was written."

King Leopold's Ghost: A Story of Greed, Terror, and Heroism in Colonial Africa
by
"The seminal work on the creation of the Congo Free State by the ego-maniacal King Leopold of Belgium around the end of the 19th Century. It began as a slaughterhouse and has only gotten worse up to and including this very day. If there is a Hell, Leopold's soul is roasting in it. This is a fascinating story of how one little king's greed led to the enslavement of millions. The Congo, in all of its manifestations, has been and still is The Heart of Darkness. If you want an education on Central Africa, read this and the book, Africa's World War. Most Americans don't have a clue about the place."
