Sheepfarmer's Daughter (The Deed of Paksenarrion, #1)
by
"On of my favorite female leads of all time, Paks makes a fantastic journey full of trials and hardship, but comes out stronger for it and Elizabeth Moon does a brillant job making you really feel for the characters she has created."

Green Rider (Green Rider, #1)
by
"This vies stronger with my first choice and its really hard to pick between them Green Rider is an excellent read with a main character who can be both strong and capable and yet in some ways so very vunerable, the story will sweep you along and leave you waiting for more."

Elantris (Elantris, #1)
by
"This book deserves special praise in my opinion as its not often that I praise novels that do not form part of a longer series, Elantris clearly highlights both the light and darksides of religion and society and the main characters attempts to stave off oppression, and create a brighter future, a truely compelling work."

The Sword of Truth, Boxed Set I: Wizard's First Rule, Blood of the Fold, Stone of Tears (Sword of Truth, #1-3)
by
"These books are a bit of a mixed bag, the early series is so good, but general opinion is that in later books they get a bit stale. However Terry Goodkind does a great Job creating the female lead, a woman with a power both respected and feared, and with a social standing to a level not much seen in modern fantasy today, I think even if you choose not to read the whole series, its more than worth it to read the first few books, and each ties off the story without a cliffhanger, making them generally easy to put down and pick up again at leisure."
