Not a fan of Mercedes? Out of curiosity, and because I've been meaning to jump into this series, what landed it on this list for you?

I've got some very long, spoilery reviews, but basically it comes down to a bullshit patriarchal werewolf society in which the oppression, abuse, and rape of women is a common thing, an abusive, controlling asshole of a love interest who is romanticized as fuck, and a heroine who talks a big game about being independent and making her own decisions, but ultimately bends to the will of whichever authority-wielding man is nearest. Also, Mercy is one of those heroines whose magic comes from her ethnicity, which otherwise affects her not at all.
There's more in-depth stuff, but basically it's a big clusterfuck of sexist and occasionally racist fail :/
Well, that sounds just peachy. :-/Some of that I've heard from other reviewers in bits and pieces, but not quite so straight-forward as that. :P I guess I'll start Downside Ghosts as my next series instead. It was between the two of them, and I was on the fence.

Well that's good :) Mercy kind of inexplicably gets lauded around as a feminist UF series, but...not so much. :) IDK much about that series, but considering it's Mercy, there's a good chance that Downside will be significantly less awful. Enjoy~
