Tim Martin You like the Blue Sword series? I have thought about reading them, at least the first two.

message 2: by Julie (new)

Julie R Yes! Although I'm not sure I would call them a series necessarily because they are very different, but both very good, books. I consider myself a Robin McKinley fan in general. These two books and her retellings of Beauty and the Beast are my favorite.

Tim Martin I saw some of the reviews that said the two books could probably be read apart from one another, The Blue Sword and The Hero and the Crown.

In my own writings I want strong female characters and I am always looking for inspiration.

Julie R I read the two books several years apart. Totally different settings and characters.
For strong female characters you should read the Tiffany Aching series (Terry Pratchett), the Lioness Quartet, The Protector of the Small, and The Beka Cooper series by Tamora Pierce.

Tim Martin Thanks for the suggestions.
