These are always weird lists for me - because there's a question of what exactly you mean by "everyone should read." Does it mean "everyone will enjoy this" or "you really should read this to figure out the continual references to the text that pop up all the time in popular culture?" There are a lot of books on that list that I don't think of as enjoyable reading - but are totally worthwhile and interesting, and are most enjoyable in a class situation when you have other people to discuss them with. In fact some of those are only "best if read for group discussion" for me.
