"Animal Farm was the first book I read at school that surprised me; from the title and the blurb about talking animals I thought we were being fobbed off with a little kids book and I was prepared to hate it. In fact it opened me up to a whole new way of discussing important ideas and themes through literature, and I loved it for that."

"A-Level English Lit. Finally at the age where the classes I was taking were ones I'd chosen and wanted to be in. And my teacher also wanted to be there, which made all the difference. She *adored* this book (she had her own illustrated hardback cover which she brought in), and her enthusiasm was catching."

"You have a class of twenty 15/16 year old girls and you have to get them interested enough in Shakespeare to pass an exam. This must have been a no brainer for my English teacher. He knew his audience, and a reckless, dramatic teenage romance was *exactly* what we wanted to read about."
