Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Harry Potter, #1)
by
"I LOVE the series, but I'm not a big fan of the first book. It's the setting, it can be boring at first, it takes a while to start, but please don't give up. 3-4-6-7 are the best ones imo."

1984

"Super interesting book, it's like George Orwell had been able to see the future. Still really actual. It's the kind of book that is both entertaining and will make you reflect about life, politic, etc.

The Lord of the Rings
by
"A classic, you love fantasy, you got to read this, this is the inspiration to so many books, movies, video games and role playing games. He create a world, that still lives after his death, he created languages, civilization and push it farther than any book would need."

Memoirs of a Geisha
by
"Wow for a book written by by a man about a women's world and by a Caucasian about a Asian world, you might think it would be cheesy, or annoying, but god is it good. The description is really poetic, and often wise and funny. There's magic to his word, and it made me want to go back to Japan so much. It made me feel nostalgic."

Chronicles of the Black Company (The Chronicles of the Black Company, #1-3)
by
"That's my favorite fantasy books series. Finally a good fantasy series written for adults and not kids/teens. The language is colorful, there's quite a few powerful women evolving in a men's world. This books include some of my favorite female character. Evil and good isn't dichotomous, there's them and there's us. There's moral and there's necessity. It really is nice books, wish they would be turn in a movie someday.

The Casual Vacancy
by
"It is NOT a book for children, it's not fantasy, it's not Harry Potter, but it's a wonderful books. Haters gonna hate, but give it a change. If you didn't like HP you might like it, it's different. If you did like it, read it like it was written by somebody else and give it a chance. It's a nice picture of a little town. Touch many subject she talks about in HP, but set in a non fantasy setting and in away to appeal to adults. "

"What would a planet turn into if nobody can see? Something post-apocalyptic, what would human nature be. Philosophic book, but now I hope we never turn all blind because that would scare the hell out of me."

1Q84 (1Q84, #1-3)
by
"Inspired by Orwell's 1984. Murakami is a realistic fantasy write that has one foot close to absurd. Though this one is much farther from absurd than Kafka on the shore. Cool Japanese writer accessible for people who doesn't know anything about Japan."

Candide
by
"Philosophic and humoristic. If you can appreciate the logic that says, that we have a nose to wear glasses, than you'll like it. Or if you're one of those too optimistic person that are so optimistic that it's annoying, well, you'll like it. The others you'll like it too, but you might want to beat some senses into Candide by the end of the book. "
