Elaine Looks like a good book. Do you recommend any other series set in the Southwest?

Thanks for your comment, Elaine.

In fiction, I of course would recommend any book by the late Tony Hillerman. You've probably already read some or all. His daughter, Anne Hillerman, just came out with a novel featuring her dad's characters titled "Spider Woman's Daughter."

For historical nonfiction, I'd recommend Richard Flint's books, especially "No Settlement, No Conquest."

Elaine Thanks for the recommendations. I did see that Anne Hillerman had come out with a book featuring her father's characters. I think it's getting pretty good reviews. Difficult to step into those shoes, that's for sure.

Have you read or seen Navajo Autumn by R. Allen Chappell? It's a new book, I believe the first in a planned series, with very much the same setting as the Hillerman books. I have put it on my to-read shelf, but haven't gotten to it.

I will check out Richard Flint's book, although I often like getting my historical knowledge in the easy way, through fiction. :-)

Dennis Herrick As Ralph Waldo Emerson observed: "Fiction reveals truths that reality obscures." I certainly found that to be the case writing "Winter of the Metal People."
