"I have read and delighted in every one of the Lady Emily mysteries. In my opinion, Alexander's plotting and character development are exceptional. Other authors I have read in this genre have rushed headlong through the development of principal characters' relationships or needlessly dragged out the process, doing irreparable harm to the protagonist's development. Lady Emily's growing sense of herself is wonderfully done. While never single-dimensional, each of the supporting characters heightens our understanding of some facet of Lady Emily's character. This is altogether my favorite female sleuth series, and I can't wait for this next installment!"

"I stumbled upon The Anatomist's Wife this fall and devoured both of the Lady Darby mysteries. They were so well plotted and the characters so well developed that I was bereft when I reached the end of the second book. Now I'm trying to wait patiently for this new installment, but I'm not very good at being patient."

"The Molly Murphy series is one I picked up after having devoured Bowen's Royal Spyness series. I must admit to having some reservations about the overall quality of the series -- will Molly never learn to exercise even a modicum of caution? When any book is down to the last few chapters, I know Molly will heedlessly ignore all the obvious warnings and plunge into sure and certain danger with no safety net! Now even Sid and Gus have taken to warning Molly off, so it's not just Daniel anymore! And all of Bowen's references to Molly's mother's warnings and admonitions cannot explain away or excuse Molly's willful pigheadedness. It's time she moved from feeling only an occasional twinge of guilt about her escapades to using her otherwise exceptional brain to figure out ways to use her exceptional intellect while keeping herself and baby Liam out of harm's way!"
