"Not to be too flippant...but what possibly could you not like about this book. I just can't dignify the accusation that it sucks with a response. Makes me politely angry like Marvin The Martian in a Bugs Bunny cartoon to even think about it...don't make me open a can of Yosemite Sam!"

"Undeniably a prophetic masterpiece! To not like this book is to deny its power and essentially live its warning. Although, if it scared you enough to say it's terrible I could maybe understand. Only, the results are the same. Wake up! It's way past 1984!"

"This book was so well written that actual veterans of the Civil War were shocked to find out that Crane never saw a battle. What possibly could anyone else have to criticize about this if it fooled them?"

"Other than truly being an epic masterpiece written by an Oxford professor who essentially spent all of his life writing the stories, genealogies and even entire written languages with proper syntax and grammatical rules...what could possibly be the problem with this book. No faeries or unicorns?"

"Yeah, vampire books suck, but this one has a haunted realism that brought enormous heart to it in the character of Claudia, who was inspired by the real life loss of the author's daughter. I didn't even know this fact until after I read it and I could still recognize the sincerity of it...all the others she wrote really suck."

"Alright, it's uneven and sloppily written in places and I could concede to a degree its place among the worst. Only, these exact reasons are also why it is endeared to me. She wasn't allowed to be a writer and kept the fact hidden. She wrote this in frenzied spurts and tucked it under the blotter pad when anyone walked in on her. In a small way this caused the writing to almost in certain sense to be a forerunner to Kerouac. She didn't really have the luxury of editing and wrote in a frenzied fever...albeit with no jazz hipster lingo, but still..."

"Yes, more than few lengthy digressions from the plot in the form of monologues that may end up feeling more like admonishing lectures but overall there is nothing like the mad Russians when it comes to epic drama and Fyodor is my unapologetic favorite. An abridged edition could solve so of its flow but that would be a true CRIME!"

"Hardy's bitter attack upon the institution of marriage naturally upset a lot of people, then and now. He stopped writing novels due to the negative criticism...are you happy now? If anything, Stephen King wad right about the moment of absolute shock and horror of this book somewhere in the middle of it. It was a complete gamechanger...and sort of anticlimactic afterwards. Completely understandable why it ruffles more than a few feathers. "
