Ender’s Game (Ender's Saga, #1)
by
"Card is one of the best authors I've ever read and his Ender series never fails to inspire awe in me. Every time I read these books he blows my mind with the complexities of his universe, and the intelligence backing up every aspect from the war strategies to the science behind the technologies, to the perfectly flawed humanity behind his characters (human and non-human). Half the time I spend reading these books is sitting back and thinking to myself that Card is an absolute genius."

The Hobbit, or There and Back Again
by
" Few authors go through the kind of development that Tolkien did with his middle-earth books. He created an entire language, a world history, developed societies, races, an entire world from scratch with all the depth and complexity of a real world while dazzling it with magical characters you can relate to. I'd live there if I could."

The Outsiders
by
"This is a classic through and through. The characters and the story are touching. This book literally changed my life when I was read it for the first time at 13 years old. I was inspired by the story, and by the fact that Hinton was so young when she wrote it. It was *the* book that turned me onto reading in general, onto poetry with it's beautifully articulated look at Frost's "Nothing Gold Can Stay", and reading *THIS* book is what made me decide I wanted to be a writer."

The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1)
by
"This is a series of books that really makes you think. The events feel so foreign and extreme, and at the same time makes you really take a look at your own society and some of it's similarities and trends. While part of my brain says our real world could never be like this, another dark and scary part of my brain says it could. It's terrifying, and awe inspiring."

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Harry Potter, #1)
by
"Rowling has built a mesmerizing world. The stories start out feeling whimsical and fun and carry this feel through the whole series in a lot of ways, but it also quickly introduces and develops truly deep ideas and adult themes while maintaining a storybook feel. It's a series that anyone could love no matter your age."
