The Lord of the Rings
by
"Many feared that the films would not live up to the mental images of the places and peoples of the books that many readers have conjured up over the years. But, Mr. Jackson did a fine job in bringing this epic to the screen although several important plot devices were glossed over or minimized."

Great Expectations
by
"The 1946 David Lean production of this great book was by far the best version. Starring John Mills, Valerie Hobson, Alec Guiness, Jean Simmons and the great Martita Hunt was and is one of the 10 best motion pictures of all time. A great adaption of the Dickens classic. "

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof

"I generally don't care much for Elizabeth Taylor's acting. However, she acquits herself well in the film adaption of one of Tennessee Williams' best. Burl Ives as Big Daddy is outstanding and Dame Judith Anderson as Big Mama is his equal."

"I like Olivier's version of this tale of ambition, trechery, and murder. A good adaption of one of Master Shakespere's most unprincipled villians."

He is joined by an all star cast and althogh the film ends more happily that the book, it is a fine effort and acquits itself well."

The Maltese Falcon
by
"My cousin Humphrey Bogart literally impresses himslf into the role of the quintessential hard boiled private eye Sam Spade in the 1941 John Huston film noir. Mary Astor, Peter Lorre, Sidney Greenstreet and Ward Bond complete the list of usual suspects in this prototype detective thriller form teh pen of Dashiellle Hammett. A classic in any form."

The Third Man
by
"Accept for the oppressive Zither music, the fim is a wonderful study of the human condition in post war Austria. Starring Orson well in the role of Harry Lime and Joseph Cotton as his old friend Holly Martins. Carol Reed manages to capture the gravitas and gritty greyness of the Graham Greene novel. "
