Nice list! Seeing you rank Villette higher than Notes from Underground says a lot. Also, I hadn't seen The Heart is a Lonely Hunter before, thanks.

I like all of the books in this list (my list) but I think the solitude in Villette resonates better with me...Have you read Aubrey's review ??And, you're very welcome.. I read The Heart is a Lonely Hunter some years ago and still can feel its loneliness.
