"The book that made Star Wars relevant again (early 90s). It's hard to imagine because SW is so pervasive now. Zahn's characters may not be canon anymore, but some of my favorite characters in the Star Wars universe started right here and none of them are even the originals from the movie: Mara Jade, Grand Admiral Thrawn, Talon Karrde, and Captain Pellaeon. Zahn's a hero :)"
