I've heard great things about this book but I could never get into the book or the movie.

I don't like the movie at all. The radio series and the BBC tv adaptation from c.1981 are both great though :)

I will have to check out the BBC TV adaptation if I can find it. I keep meaning to subscribe to Acorn but I'm afraid I won't have time to read if I do.

The original version of this series is the radio series and I think it works really well in that medium, so that's worth a try. I have them on cd, I wonder if they might be available from a library.

Both of your suggestions are great! I think perhaps listening to them on CD might work for me even though my mind did tend to wander the last time I tried to listen to an audio book.
