Henry V

"Best from the best--and the only one where the bard writes dialect (Irish, Scottish, English, French and esp H's own, and Fluellen's Welsh: "Alexander the Pig" Don't you mean the Great? "The Pig and the Great is the same…) Is it a history? A comedy? A tragedy--for the French at Agincourt.

Twelfth Night

"The only American in Shakespeare, Malvolio wants to marry his boss--for which he's sent to the madhouse. His idea waited 200 years and a Revolution to be accepted for awhile, no longer.

Candelaio: A New Stage Translation
by
"A great, baggy plot--the first street hoods in drama (Neapolitans). Too sexual for 21C performance--with a would-be pederast Latin teacher, a "reformed" gay marrid, searching a (f) lover, a workaholic scientist, and psychologist-drugseller-witch. Best 1st play ever written, way ahead of Titus--though maybe not Moliere.

"The greatest Russian play, on foreign (German, a la Catherine the Great) undermining--shades of Trump '15.

"Hilarious and revelatory, say when the med student, fiance reads his medical thesis (e.g., on flatulence) to is fiancee. Or is that Le Malade imaginaire? Oh-oh (lu il ya trente ans)."

I've seen my 1-8 stage, but not my last two. I'm voting mostly on reading. For ex., I despise Titus And., Shakespeare as beginner. But a friend saw Olivier in it, 5 times (she's a costume pro)…Might change my opinion.
