"Bryan Stevenson is the founder of the Equal Justice Initiative, a non-profit organization in Montgomery, Alabama. Focusing on the case of one man, falsely convicted of murder, Stevenson reveals the injustice that resulted when a State Prosecutor deliberately withheld evidence that exonerated the accused. Stevenson also addresses a number of issues currently being litigated involving other issues of social justice. Stevenson has successfully argued cases crucial to individual's rights before the United States Supreme Court. This is a must for anyone interested in the administration of Justice, fairly and equally, no matter the age, race, or sex of the accused. Unforgettable."

Darkness Visible: A Memoir ...

"William Styron won the Pulitzer Prize for "The Confessions of Nat Turner, and the National Book Award for "Sophie's Choice." However, after being overcome by severe depression in 1980, he wrote this memoir documenting his own struggles with depression. Styron did more to remove the stigma from those suffering from the disorder than perhaps any other person. For all his literary achievement, he is remembered the last two decades of his life for this sensitive and accurate description of what it means to live with the depths of depression and anxiety."

"Camus' novel of the absurd. Mersault dares to refuse to observe the conventions of society. Society charges a severe price to the individual who does not conform. Is Mersault the Stranger, or all those who judge him by their own standards? A masterpiece."

The Sharpshooter Blues

"In the aftermath of so many gun violence deaths in America, Nordan's tragi-comic novel addresses the American embrace of the gun culture. To what price? Memorable, and thought provoking in current days when the American Congress seems held prisoner by members of the National Rifle Association who defend the individual's right to possess firearms no matter the cost. A highly recommended read."

A Man Called Ove

"Last but not least, the incredible novel that has swept Sweden by storm and now captures the American heart. After reviewing my previous selections, it's nice to recognize the natural good in individuals who wear a curmudgeonly appearance. Ove is a widower. His love for his departed wife Sonya, resonates with those who seek the true meaning of love. Ove, isolated by his own choice from former friends and neighbors, contemplates suicide, for his Wife Sonya was the only color he had in his life. Follow Ove as he reenters the world, recognizing the nature of love between not only man and wife, but to all people. A charmer that will possibly cause some tears to flow. But this little book steadfastly assures us, "All you need is Love.""

``Laurie "Just Mercy" sounds absolutely horrifying - I can't believe prosecutors would behave in such a criminal manner in order to "win". Disgusting and scary.

I always enjoy reading your notes Mike :D
