"Quite a few times the author shows off his vocab knowledge with difficult words (thanatotic comes to mind offhand)."

"More for the difficult grammar and length of the text. Lots of sentences that span four or more blocks of text. Some antiquated words you'll have to look up, or terms made difficult or obtuse for the sake of it seemingly (cognomen instead of "nickname"; the French bon mot instead of comeback)."

Charles Dickens: Five Novels

"Dickens works are very verbose. I'm not quite sure if the vocab use is super difficult, but the age of the books and the length of the texts leads me to believe I've encountered some words that must have stopped me in my tracks in the past."
