The Handmaid’s Tale (The Handmaid's Tale, #1)
by
"An incredibly timely read re: local and global politics. We would be remiss not to include this on a list. Preferably for English (not Literature) so all schools have the text as an option."

Begin, End, Begin: A #LoveOzYA Anthology
by
"It may be hard to select just 1-2 of the amazing Australian YA novels currently getting good reviews for our final book list. Providing this collection may be a good way to expose students to a range of excellent authors, as well as study short story form.

Riding the Black Cockatoo
by
"This is great because it is a memoir, is QLD-based, and explores Aboriginal issues. English or EAL = good for unit 2."

Hamlet

"Voting for something besides Macbeth! Please no Macbeth! Not equitable to set Macbeth when trial exam schools have prepared for it."

Othello

"Voting for this because PLEASE NO MACBETH! Macbeth was a trial exam text, we really need to exclude it on equity grounds."

Dracula
by
"Please also put a contemporary vampire story on the list - that way people can do a comparative study of Dracula with a newer text in English. Pleeeeeeease!"

Electricity for Beginners
by
"The QLD list needs to include contemporary Australian poetry. Dicinoski's volume was written in Brisbane, and includes references to the Brisbane floods. She is a female poet, and there is also a queer angle to her work, which will help the list to represent diverse voices in these areas. The poems are accessible, perfect for either EAL or English."

Oryx and Crake (MaddAddam, #1)
by
"Let's face it - the QLD list NEEDS an Atwood on it. A female voice with historical AND contemporary relevance? How can you go past her! I suggest Handmaid's Tale for Literature, and Oryx and Crake for English, but really just make sure she gets on to some list somewhere!"
