"Everyone says that this is "the best science fiction book ever written!" If that is so, then please explain why, because to me it seemed to be a typical science fiction novel trying to smash multiple ideas together which did not necessarily belong together. I'll end here - I mean, don't get me started."

"I first read this book because some jerk in my 1997 "Internet Class" (shows you how old I am, told me that this was better than Lord of the Rings (which was not then filmed, only in books). I enjoyed the book, but it was no Tolkien. Since then, people - mainly men, I think - have gone on to extol the Wheel of Time as the best fantasy series ever written, because it includes things like sex, murder, torture, femdom, and other icky things which Tolkien would not have touched with a ten foot pole. It's a good fantasy series, not a great one, and that's it."
