Porter Heh. Since the popular wisdom seems to be that Twilight is just about the worst love story ever, I'd certainly not categorize it as overrated.

DMS "Popular wisdom" by your peer group? By the rankings on this website, this book is currently 3.62 stars with over a million ratings. Over 400,000 of those are 5 stars. That's pretty freaking overrated.

What you're terming popular wisdom is an interesting metric of value in a consumer society. The votes we cast with our dollars are the "ratings" used to define markets. PW claims that, "Meyer’s Twilight Saga has sold 116 million copies worldwide." The film adaptation of the first movie had a box office gross of close to 400 million dollars. This is the form of overrated that ensures imitation and iteration of this same crap.

Porter I may be using an idiosyncratic definition, but I think there's a big difference between being "popular" and "highly rated".

In general, the more that a person reads, the more they know and care about literature, less they admire Twilight.

The Twilight books are like Michael Bay movies. They're popular and make mountains of money, but are also widely regarded as kinda terrible, even by a lot of the people who enjoy them.

But yeah, if your concern is that it's made too much money and is encouraging others to make similar stuff, I understand.
