I think these books sound great. I'm gonna read 2 books by John Steinbeck for other bookgroups this month and I haven't read our bookread by H.G. Wells yet. So I think I'll wait with voting after I read some of those. So I will know whether I would like more by those writers. It's been about 25 years since I read Wuthering Heights, so I wouldn't mind reading that one again, either...

I just read Of Mice and Men, which I enjoyed very much. And I'm planning to read The Pearl soon.

The Pearl is my favorite book by Steinbeck...But it's "darker" than a lot of his books. Maybe put some daisies around your home when reading it :)
