Haha, oh well, my personal choice for Therese Raquin is only one vote ahead, I don't think we'll get lucky this month!
no, I'd've also been happy with Thérèse Raquin or The Monk but it would appear that the group would rather read yet more Hardy or Shakespeare
I think the popular choice nearly always wins in the polls. For instance Austen often wins any month she's nominated and in October we can expect Frankenstein or Dracula to top the table every year. It's understandable when we have 200+ people voting each month, that the most well known names take the lead.In theory there should be something for everyone each month, but it's one of the reasons we have buddy reads, for the less popular books that fewer people want to explore.
Ironically I don't even enjoy Shakespeare that much and the only reason I voted for Othello is to give me an excuse to read it. The less popular books sound more interesting to me and I have added many books from runners up in the polls.
Brina, also if you're like me, you haven't always read the more popular books anyway....but that's why we're a catching up on classics group! :)

I have never read Othello, and I saw that the group never read it, so I nominated it. Some of the other books sound really interesting and I would love to read them, but I am trying like hell to actually read the ones with the recognizable names that I've never read before. I have read so many books this year after joining the group in January, and I am always happy to know that I am not the only person in the universe to have never read a book everyone else seems to know by heart.
Up until this month we'd only read one of Shakespeare's plays as a group! The bard buddy reads will hopefully give us the opportunity to catch up with his plays, as he doesn't often win in polls either!
"Monkey" was actually made into a TV series which I vividly remember watching when I was younger, so bizarrely that's actually a more recognisable name to me than Thomas Hardy!

I'm only posting this now that Monkey has no chance of winning, as it miiigghht put some people off!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LAbE3...
