Knowing next to nothing about Japanese literature, I did not participate in the nominations, leaving them to others who may be more familiar with it. Now that the nominations are in, I've reviewed the summaries and there are at least 3 in the Classics category that I'd like to read. (Yea!) Unfortunately, I'm not sure I'll be able to find any of the nominations (Classic or Current) at my library or on their Overdrive library. :-( I will keep searching.

FYI Silence was made into a movie and it's on cable TV right now. I watched a few minutes of it. It's set in Japan but stars mostly American and UK actors - Andrew Garfield, Adam Driver, Liam Neeson. Directed by Martin Scorcese.

I already got Kafka on the Shore from the library, based on the high ratings. I guessed wrong on this one! I'm surprised so many people are interested in 1Q84 at 925 pages. It's balanced out I guess by the very short book that is leading the classic poll.

Ah, that makes sense. The page count is what has stopped me from reading it until now so I'm glad it's in the lead so I will finally have a reason to get to it.

Nancy's understanding is the same as mine, regarding Overdrive. My library has a physical copy of 1Q84 and the ebook on Overdrive, but no audio books. It would take me 6 months actually read this. I just don't have time. That's okay. There are plenty of other books to listen to and I may make purchase suggestions to my library on 1 or more of those nominations that sounds interesting.

This makes it challenging to finish long books, especially if a few holds become available at the same time.
Purchase suggestions - I'm surprised by how receptive my library is to these requests. I think they only said no once, because the book was considered a textbook.
