J. Monks I loved Journey To The Center Of The Earth ❤️❤️ I did read it twice as a teenager though. Hmmmmmm

message 3: by Kathrin (new)

Kathrin I would love to read Great Expectations - it's been on my list for a while.

Great, all! I hope people will vote for what they really want to read, so we can have a great discussion :) The thing is people will vote for their favourite, and not intending to join in - and that's the whole point of the poll!

Aqsa I already read Great Expectations! It's great and I hope you guys love it too. I'm fine with First Love and The Journey to the Centre of the Earth

message 8: by Judy (new)

Judy Voted for Cannery Row, too, but I have started Great Expectations twice and never finished it, so maybe this is my time!

Definitely Judy! Reading with a group always helps if you're out of your comfort zone, I think, and this has wonderful depths to explore. As soon as I saw it was nominated, I suspected it would win ... though you could all prove me wrong ;)

message 10: by Fr. Andrew (new)

Fr. Andrew The only ones I feel moved to read right now are First Love and Alas Babylon. But maybe I'll participate for a change. I often intend to do so with these group reads, but back out at the last minute. Commitment issues? Woe!

LOL Andrew! You don't need to worry about "promises" or commitments here - it's all entirely up to you, at all times :)

message 12: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Great Expectations is on my bookshelf. I have wanted to read it for a while now. I always get nervous about reading classics because I am worried that I may not understand it fully. I think reading it in a group will definitely help me get this one read!

message 13: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean Mod
I repeat my comment 11, Kristen :) If it wins I think you'll love it! If not, then you can always read my Dickens personal challenge thread, as I have made lots of notes there during my previous reading of it (and I'm careful about spoilers).

message 14: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Thank you! I will keep that in mind!

Yep. I actually sighed when I saw it was nominated, as I have a crystal ball about these things ...LOL! Chris couldn't understand it, and said "but I thought you'd love the fact that people want to read your favourite author!" and of course I do! But I know what tends to happen in polls ...

Thanks for your support both, and I shall just hope that we DO get a good lively group of readers :)

message 16: by Sabrina (new)

Sabrina The Book Lover I voted for Jules Verne, because I find that reading Charles Dickens's English is often quite hard if English is not your native language (as is the case for me).

Two good friends of mine have also said that to me - one Italian and one German, Sabrina.

There's still time to get your votes in for this one! It ends tomorrow :)
