Even though I nominated Mema I've decided to vote for Transparent City because it has great ratings from the GRers who've read it and I've never read a writer from Angola (nor Mengara's Gabon).
The university library here has Transparent City only in Portuguese (Os Transparentes), but remarkably, the county library has an English translation. Also available for Kindles.
The university has Mema in English so I may read it sooner or later.

And Transparent City got the most votes - however there was almost as much interest in reading Heart of Darkness, and since it's a short read - I've added both books to be read in Nov/Dec.

We did have a good batch of nominees this time and the votes were spread around.
I've read Heart of Darkness twice, the 2nd time four years ago. It's a must-read.
Those who want to read The Fury and Cries of Women, I found a used copy at Abebooks.com for $16 +$5 ship. Or the Kindle is about $14.
