Tom Mathews Mod
I've often thought of nominating A Diary from Dixie: A Journal of the Confederacy, 1860-1865 as I last read it in college. It is possibly the best memoir ever written about the Civil War. I recently read a quirky review of it by Ta-Nehisi Coates which he led off with:

The Southern diarist, Mary Chesnut is so smart, and so observant, and so wonderfully satirical, that her aristocratic racism just comes out of nowhere and slaps the you back to reality.

I have a different version I think, Mary Chestnut's Civil War, would this be an acceptable substitute should it win?

Also, for those who haven't read it, The Landbreakers is absolutely wonderful.

Kathryn in FL The link for "A Diary from Dixie..." won't be released until 8/2020 so I don't know if others will select another book since a specific published version is selected. There are four copies at least of Mary Chesnut's book.
