Why would you not include Canadian authors? Wesley King, David Robertson, Susan Nielsen, Eric Walters, Kevin Sylvester, Deborah Ellis, Colleen Nelson, Carol Matas, Heather Smith, Jon Klassen, and many more!
For newbery they do have to be American
