I'm tied with C. S. Lewis and Tolkien, but I read Lewis first and the Narnian series is very nostalgic for me. :)
I did C.S. Lewis but Jenifer A Nielsen is nice too :) and ones not on the list would be...Andrew Peterson, Chuck Black, Lillian Kieth and Johnathon Auxier <3

You can definitely add him! It's just that we haven't read any books by Chesterton yet, so I didn't add him into the original poll.

I voted for CS Lewis. He is my favorite on the list, and my favorite Christian fantasy author. However, if I was going to vote on an author who really got me into fantasy and has me reading her books over and over, I would vote for Megan Whalen Turner. She's not a Christian, but her books are genius. 🙌
I wrote in Kate Stradling because she's my most recently discovered favorite, but I'd also have to second Tara Grayce, Lewis, Tolkien, and Suzanne Collins as being amazing! Plus Intisar Khanani and Robin McKinley and Charlie Holmberg... Neil Gaiman is also an all time favorite, but you do have to be careful of content/worldview issues in a lot of his books.

It looks like you have great tastes! I'll take a look at Kate Stradling.

Gah!! You're killing me with this!! How do you expect me to be able to choose?!?! 😭 I can't decide!!!! 😂

Tolkien, C. S. Lewis, and J. K. Rowling (I know some people disagree the last one compares, but I constantly see her hand in shaping modern children's fantasy, can't take her for granted).

I agree on Intisar Khanani! She's a new favorite of mine. XD

She certainly has had an impact! I personally loved the HP series. I thought it was very well written, despite going into it having heard negative comments about her writing. I do wish I had paced my kids through them more slowly, like the books were designed.
For my kids, I feel like it was too much at once, and that the books matured in content as the characters matured. I think 1 book per year, starting at age 11 would have been perfect.

It's like asking which of my Children I love more. For me it's Lewis and Tolkien. So said both. They're many early fantasy authors I like such as Chesterton, Jules Verne and Edgar Rice Burroughs. I've heard of MacDonald who greatly influenced Lewis in his early days too. Maybe we could have poll of all the 19th century fantasy authors as there are so many.

I voted for JKR because I think she is my all time favorite. My favorite Christian fantasy author is Nadine Brandes, though. I also adore Lewis but have had a hard time getting into Tolkien. I love the write-in answer about feeling like choosing between them is choosing your favorite kid. 😂

That's a great idea, Sharon. I personally binge-read the entire series at a very young age, but I'm not really a fan of Harry Potter anymore. Kind of a shame!
