Nenad Knezevic I voted 'Any Format' although I do exclude audiobooks - I just can't concentrate listening to them.

message 2: by John (new)

John Ever since I got a ebook reader with a backlight, I hardly ever read physical dead tree books anymore. With audiobooks, I've found that the narrator is at least as important as the story. A great narrator can make almost anything compelling, and a bad narrator can make even a great story unbearable.

message 3: by VJ (new)

VJ I favor hardback and paperback because the sacrifice of our trees must be honored. I use e-readers, but screens fatigue my eyes, and what will be available for reading when the power evaporates? Audiobooks are very much dependent on the narrator. I once listened to a rendering of Emmett Till's story, read by a male with a British accent. I cringed every time he spoke Till's mother's name, Mamie, because he pronounced it mammy. I tend to avoid audiobooks now.

message 4: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Harris I listen to audiobooks on Libby. If I buy, I tend to buy HC or PB. I do KU usually when I do digital. So basically everything.

jamie-ashton fabian Hardcovers for books I know I love and want to have a gorgeous version of, paperback for casual reading for sure. I kinda am falling in love w Kindle though, just bought my first book there a few days ago.

Bernie4444 I missed the poll. I do not open the computer that often.
Preference Hard cover -even if I have other formats of the same book. Starship on Star Ship on Saddle Mountain: Hallam, Atlantis: Amazon.com: Books Kindle $0.99 hardback is $650.00. I cannot do that too often.

Understandable. For me I would need a long road trip while I'm driving or repetitive workday activities for an audiobook.

This may sound weird, but I was much more friendly towards reading after playing early video games and modern MMORPGs. Since you have to read to play, this felt more second nature than picking up paper and barreling through like school work.

Agreed. We picked up an audiobook of the Hobbit, but just... ugh... no, can't do it, sorry. Everything sounded boring and awkward but I couldn't really figure out why. Online however, there's a very engaging version of 1984 by George Orwell and was surprised a lot of audiobooks picked up at Dollar Tree had dynamic narration and even high production.

:-D I dig it.

Excellent point, I try to get physicals of the stuff I really like.

Understandably! I think audiobooks need 'proof-listening' as much as the written version needs proof-reading.

Great variety with the multiple sources, glad to see libraries are still getting use online. I tried to drop off a ton of books at our local libraries and they all said, "Oh, we don't take books." Really? "Unless they're new kids book". O...kay...

Congrats on the entry to e-reading! Makes sense for paperback and hardcover too. As my wife says, "There's no such thing as 'too many books.'"

All good, I usually have a 60 year expiration on them, so I guess I forgot to change it this time.

Wow, that's crazy expensive! That could be a good slogan for Kindle: "Digital, it's better than nothing." :-D
