Poll

If you took a "vacation" on a deserted island for 5 years and could only take the complete works of one author for reading material, which author would you choose? Adding a comment to explain your choice is optional, but we're kind of nosy, so we'd really like to know.

(Choose from the list or write in an author's name for "Your choice" if not on this list.)

Launa Mcneilly I have always enjoyed the works of Stephen King and figure if I was all alone on this deserted island then I might need some excitement. Stephen delivers the thrills and chills that would satisfy that need.

J.A. Clement Agatha Christie, because if you tore out the last chapters and interchanged them, you could have a new book every time!
heheheh

I haven't voted yet because I've only managed to narrow it down to three or four.

message 4: by Ali (new)

Ali Cooper Probably either Iain Banks or Phil Rickman.

Okay, I finally made a commitment to Mark Twain. I actually have a giant omnibus of most of his short works that I keep meaning to read but just can't seem to get to. So that 5 year vacation on a deserted island is starting to sound pretty good, now that I've selected my author.

Launa Mcneilly Five years on a deserted island does sound pretty good. Hmm. Well, I'd enjoy six months worth, anyway. I'd come back rested with one or two new novels ready for publishing. Yeah, I like the sound of that.

Sharon Tillotson What the hell was I thinking taking a five year vacation on a deserted island? I chose Nora Roberts because I'd want a happy ending to this folly. And because if I were to have the whole collection, I would at least have a glimpse of another human as they dropped off the express shipment. Tom Hanks comes to mind...

Barbara Silkstone Group... Thanks for your patience in waiting for me to stagger in. I got lost as usual. Down the rabbit hole.

I chose King because there is enough variety in his writing to keep one occupied. I wish you would have asked what person I'd want on the island. Seeing how it's for 5 years I'll switch from John Cleese to Johnny Depp. Somebody's got to climb the trees and get the coconuts. Not going to be me. :)

I was going to suggest that choosing our reading buddy on the deserted island could be the next poll, but there would probably be too much variety in the answers for that to work as a poll. So I guess we'll just have to use the comments to pick someone to read our selection of books with. And naturally, I choose Chris Isaak. If we got tired of reading together, he could sing to me. (Swoon.) Plus I'm sure he could climb that coconut tree, too.

Launa Mcneilly I would take a big strong soldier with me. He could climb trees, build a hut, and protect me from, God only knows what, that could land on the island. I'm all about security.

message 11: by J (new)

J Eckhart Tolle, I think.

A Lee I've been reading books by Nora Roberts since I was a teen before I had my first child. I've taken her books all over and lost some on the way; but when I find them again they are always entertaining; Now I want to continue collecting her older works and some new ones now on my kindle (so they can't be lost again) I'm never bored and I've repeatedly re-read her books again so being on an island with her books would never be boring. My 2nd fav is Sandra Brown.
