Have read both but I'm in for a re-read of Solaris. Does anyone now if there is a direct translation from Polish to English? The Eng copy I have was derived, in turn, from the French translation. Not to seem like an party-pooper, but I might pass on Off On a Comet since (1) I've read an awful lot of Verne lately (and already have queued up more.) and (2) I've vowed to wait for faithful Verne translations on many of his titles before reading any more and I'm not sure if there is one for "Comet". See: http://www.najvs.org/works/index.shtml Hope at least some of this makes sense!! (BTW...I suppose that I should have joined the conversation earlier...apologies)

Solaris was just on sale this weekend at Audible. Apparently this is a new, direct-to-English translation. There's also a Kindle version.
I meant to buy the audible version, but prograstinated until the sale was over :(. I'll get the kindle version instead.
Steve, the print edition is still available. You can buy the one with the movie cover on Amazon. You can also get a used copy on several sites.
I'm confused (what's new). If I go directly to Amazon and search for "Solaris Bill Johnston" (Johnston translated directly from the Polish), I can eventually hit on a paperback...but...one that's translated from the French by Joanna Kilmartin and Steve Cox. I have that already. Does anyone have a direct link to the Bill Johnston paperback? If not, I'll just re-read what I have...no worries and sorry to be a pain...

Missed the sale too.
Missed the sale too.
No bother, but it seems on amazon that the kindle version is translated by Bill Johnson and the paperback is the Polish/French to English version. I see the problem but don't see a link to a paperback version. If you want the kindle link it:

The new translator is explained in the book's description. I haven't downloaded yet, so I can speak to it's accuracy.
