“One day, when I was messing around with a rugby ball, drop-kicking it over the posts, a teacher noticed me and suggested I play scrumhalf. He said I was a good kicker and that they needed somebody on the team. He told me to be at the next practice, but I never pitched up. I was just too scared; those guys were enormous. Of course, the teacher was angry and reported me to the head of rugby. I was called in and threatened with a disciplinary hearing. All boys had to play rugby.”
