“I never pictured proposing to you. Being with you was a secret hope that I never let grow, until last year. I crave you, even when you’re by my side. I miss you, even when you’re sleeping on my chest. Sometimes, I want to wake you up in the night, just so I can see your expression when you look at me. I’ll never stop needing you. I love you, Lane. Will you marry me?”
Her hand tightens on mine and she nods.
“Words, sweetheart. I need to hear a yes.” I brush my thumb over her cheek.
“Yes. Yes, I’ll marry you. I love you.” She chokes the words out and swipes at her eyes. “You’re wonderful, you know that?”
“Only to you,” I say, and she laughs. I slide the ring on her finger, and it fits perfectly. “Like you were made to be mine,” I murmur.
“I was,” she says simply.”
