“Now came time to “create and run.” John Allen had grabbed that motto, like many other bits of wisdom, from the Sufis. Keep building, keep energy high, moving on and on to higher challenges, scarcely stopping to look back—this, Allen believed, was the road to greatness. He would later describe his management style: “Nothing fails like success wise men say, because from success a man will often forget how to make the next step, and but plunge down from a higher precipice than before; therefore, the wisest men say, best to succeed, to go from achievement to deeper achievement until death confronts each of us.”3”
