“That was one scene that always stuck with me, whenever I watched the movie. It’s so… tonally different from everything else that’s going on. I think what stayed with me is that people have ignored this woman her whole life. But she had a story. Her life had value. I think that’s what I wanted to do justice to. All the forgotten souls on this earth. They matter, you know? I think I was afraid that I was going to become like the bird woman. I thought that maybe I already was. Still, I wanted to give her grace.”
