“But my own struggles in life had taught me that something always being done a certain way is not the same thing as that being the right way to do it. So as soon as the casting had been made public, I had taken the liberty of sending emails and press releases to journalists across the nation. This press storm happened because I went courageously after my goal of making a more equitable world for my autistic son. It happened because I made noise on behalf of the 20 percent of the population that had been told to disappear. The press storm happened because I was determined for the world to see that autistic people can speak for themselves and tell their own stories.”
