“I sometimes hear the question of why an all-powerful God would allow so much evil and suffering in the world. It strikes me as an uncomfortably passive inquiry. For me, the compelling question is, Why do we as children of an all-powerful God—who has given us strict and holy commandments to love one another—permit so much evil and suffering in the world He gave us to run? I know that other people’s bad choices are creating pain far beyond my ability to influence, but I ask myself, What can I do individually and collectively about the things I hate in this world? If we really are agents to act and not be acted upon, then what am I prepared to do?”
