“but it’s tough to pray earnestly and regularly for a missionary or Christian worker. It is precisely this earnest prayer, however, this serious, heartfelt, get-down- to-business-with-God prayer, that God attends to. Read the great prayers of the Bible and ask yourself if those people were earnest or not. A beautiful example is Hannah’s prayer for a son in 1 Samuel 1. She was so intense in her prayer, so oblivious to everything going on around her, that the priest at the house of the Lord thought she was drunk! But of course the supreme example was Jesus Himself, a man who would continue all night in prayer to God, who literally wore the disciples out by having them pray with Him. Read Jesus’ prayers in the Gospels and ask if this man was not earnestly involved in His praying. Our prayers may often go unanswered because we really care so little.”
