“Even when the expanse of heaven is offered to us, it is out of reach to our feeble hearts. No wonder Jesus said to His followers with such frequency, "Take heart." Jesus gives us only what our hearts can handle, even when it is giving Himself. He knows our capacity to receive His love expands each time we remember Him and take heart. There's so much more, He says, but we can't bear it. We can't bear it until we take heart. We can't bear it until our hearts expand. And our hearts expand only as we realize just
how out of reach He is. Our loss compels us to cry out. The Spirit responds and expands our hearts. This expansion is a slow one indeed.”
