“I have no clue what happened to my best friend, the one who played with me on the playground when no one else would. But this Logan…” She gestured from my shoes on up. “This Logan can kiss my ass.”

“You made me feel like I was the most important person in the world to you, and then you showed me I never really mattered at all.” I stood up. “I hate you for that, Logan.”

He got to his feet and came closer. The intensity in his eyes left me frozen, and some sick part of me ached for his touch. His deep voice rumbled. “You are all that ever mattered to me.”

“I should walk away again. But “should” could go fuck itself. Giving her up the first time nearly killed me, and hurting her again wasn’t an option.

None of it would matter if I couldn’t convince her to give me another chance. While she said she hated me, her body told another story. Her pulse had raced, and the scent of her arousal haunted me.

    Plus, she kissed me back.”

“Holy crap.” She took a bite of her protein bar and shook her head. “You sucked face with the Logan Reynolds.”

I rolled my eyes. “I used to do more than that with him.”

“You want to prove you never stopped loving me?” She got up and stared down at me. “Start by trusting me with the truth.”

“She shook her head, her smile fading a little. “I forget you’re a rock star now. To me, you’re just Logan.”

I took her hand. “That’s all I want to be.”

“Enough.” I rolled my eyes and would’ve smacked him with my laptop if I wasn’t worried his hard head would break my computer. “Please don’t make me throw up.”

He finally glanced my way, the corner of his mouth quirked up into a crooked smile. “God, I’ve missed you.”

“There was no love in my heart for this man—hell, I didn’t even like him—but that didn’t stop my hand from trembling as I pressed the pad against the wound. He groaned, his eyes popping open.

“Don’t move,” I warned. “I’m trying to stop the bleeding.”

    “With what? Acid?” he growled.”

    “Thank you.”

Okay, sincerity was not what I had come to expect from this man.

I shook it off. “It’s easier for me to get information if you’re alive.”

The corner of his mouth twitched as he sat up. Jesus, abs like that should be illegal.

He caught his breath and shook his head. “Either way, I’m grateful.” He glanced my way, his dark eyes full of secrets. “And for me, that doesn’t happen very often.”

I raised a brow. “You’re usually an ungrateful bastard?”

“No.” He chuckled, sucking in a pained breath before lifting his gaze to meet mine. “I rarely have anything to be thankful for.”

“And why should I believe you?”

His tone dropped to a dangerous octave. “Because there are very few people I have never lied to.” He passed me to open the door. “You are one of them.”

He stalked down the hall toward the elevator without even a glance back.”

My sin was being very good at it.”

“Lia pulled back, moonlight dancing in her dark eyes. “If you’re trying to make me go easy on you, it won’t work.”

Cooper's teeth brushed her lower lip. “No way. Just getting an early taste of my prize.”

She grinned. “I feel like I’ve already won.”

He kissed her once more, whispering, “I know I have.”

His face was every bit as shocked, but he managed to look ruggedly handsome instead of like a suffocating tuna.”

“She glanced down at her simple cotton bra and groaned. “Okay, I swear I have some sexy lingerie. This isn’t my get-naked-with-a-guy-for-the-first-time bra.”

Cooper shook his head, a barely-there smile on his lips. “I can promise you, it’s not your bra I’m looking at.”

She chuckled, rolling her eyes. “I can’t even remember what pair of underwear I’m wearing right now.”

He came closer, his warm torso scorching her cool skin as his gaze locked on hers. “It doesn’t matter. I swear you won’t be wearing it much longer.”

I’m hungry as a church mouse, Hope. Do you have anything to eat?

Hope looked down at His Whiskery Lordship swishing his black tail back and forth at her. He’d tucked a blue paper napkin into his collar. “When did you wake up?” she asked.”
