    “ডাক্তার নন্দী নামে এক ভদ্রলোক আমার মায়ের চিকিৎসা করতেন। খুব অদ্ভুত মানুষ ছিলেন তিনি। পশুপাখির সঙ্গে কথা বলতেন, মনে হতো তিনি ওদের ভাষা বোঝেন, অন্তত তাঁর কথা বলার ধরণটা ওইরকমই ছিলো। তাঁর পোষা কুকুর ছিলো, সেগুলোকে তিনি সন্তানের মতো ভালোবাসতেন। আমি তখন টিয়েপাখি পুষতাম, তিনি আমাদের বাসায় এসেই আগে টিয়েকে আদর করতেন, কথাবার্তা বলতেন। তো ওই ভদ্রলোক আমার কাছ থেকে বই নিয়ে যেতেন পড়ার জন্য। একদিন তিনি বললেন-'আমার কি মনে হয় জানো? মনে হয় আমরা সময় কাটাবার জন্য, ক্লান্তি দূর করার জন্য এসব বইটই পড়ি, অথচ এগুলো যারা লেখেন তাঁদেরও একসময় আর এগুলো ভালো লাগে না। বুঝলে, ক্লান্ত লাগে ক্লান্ত লাগে।' তাঁর এই কথাটা আজকাল আমার খুব মনে পড়ে। আমারও এখন ক্লান্ত লাগে ক্লান্ত লাগে। জীবনটাকে ভীষণ অর্থহীন মনে হয়। আর তাছাড়া, লিখে কি হয়? লেখালেখি করে কি কাউকে কমিউনিকেট করা যায়? মিউজিক বরং অনেক বেশি কমিউনিকেটেবল ল্যাংগুয়েজ। লেখালেখিতে যা কিছু বলতে চাই তা বলা হয়ে ওঠে না, আমি অন্তত বলতে পারিনি। যেটুকু বলেছি তা-ও বোঝাতে পেরেছি বলে মনে হয় না। যাকে বলে ব্রেকডাউন অব কমিউনিকেশন সেটা আমাদের সবার জীবনে ঘটে, আমার জীবনেও ঘটেছে।”
