“„Темза“ беше селската кръчма, която преди време се наричаше „Слива“. Някога сливата бе традиционно насаждение за Ново Плодородно. Още бяха живи старците, дето помнеха, че преди Девети местната кооперация е произвеждала хиляди литри сливовица и ги продавала из Европа. После бе дошло текезесето, което реши, че районът не е подходящ за сливи, а за ябълки – изкорени част от старите дървета и засади ябълкови градини. По-късно дойде ново изкореняване, този път до дупка – то бе по повеля от Москва. Тогава съветският лидер Горбачов заедно с перестройката обяви война и на алкохолизма сред руското население. За да не останат по-назад, и българските партийци се включиха в тая борба. С партиен декрет бяха опустошени останалите сливови градини в Ново Плодородно.
Така от сливовата слава на района остана само името на селската кръчма. Тя беше стара хамбареста къща до реката.
След промените кръчмарят Дичо я получи като реституция, бе принадлежала на дядо му. Получи я, стегна я и я разработи. За разработването помогнаха най-много местните хора, които в годините на социализма бяха загубили интерес към работата, но не и към алкохола. От много декрети срещу алкохолизма те здраво се бяха пропили.
И вместо да си губят времето по ниви, градини и ливади, селяните от Ново Плодородно предпочитаха да го прекарват смислено – на маса с чаша. В чашата кръчмарят Дичо сипваше всекиму според вкуса и според доходите… Затова някои цял ден караха на биричка, други удряха по мастичка или две, а трети пиеха евтино вино „Меча кръв“ с лимонада и го наричаха фамилиарно „мечка“.
– Дичо, дай едно меченце! – викна дядо поп, който по обедно време си имаше доза – мечка с две меченца. Преди малко бе преборил мецаната – бутилка „Меча кръв“, сега бе дошъл реда на малките ѝ – две чаши по двеста грама.”
