Elena I actually just tried this one last month, and didn't really like it. :( Kylara is like a lone island of competence, and I read primarily for interesting character interactions.

To be honest? After I read the first book, I was rather meh. But a friend of mine had the whole series so I borrowed the rest later and ended up really enjoying it. But to each her own, of course. :)

Shara This doesn't have a female protag, but one of my favorite SF books, let alone space opera, of all time is Karin Lowachee's WARCHILD.

Elena Maybe I'll try book two eventually, when I run out of other sci-fi recs. I didn't hate it, I was just bored.

But oh my gosh, Warchild looks incredible. Right up my sci-fi alley. Thanks for the rec!

It's a hard book to get your hands on, but when you do, let me know what you think! This book is such a favorite it's precious. :)
