Antonomasia Thanks, shall check it out. I've never really liked The Far Side; my sense of humour is more Douglas Adams type stuff, or trashy 1970s British comedies . Had thought of Chris Ware as more serious / about highly detailed art, but I've never read a whole one.

Gregsamsa Ware can be serious, but never without a decent amount of humor, but it's subtle and dry, not so much the Adams absurdist style.

In Jimmy Corrigan, the Smartest Kid on Earth there is an insert of clippable postcards picturing crappy views of American suburban banality while the reverse features gushing descriptions of the scene as if it's a fascinating historic spot or a vista of natural beauty. I thought they were hilarious, but might not be quite what you're looking for. Bagge probably is, though.
