It's in her Tortall universe, in which there are also 3 more quartets (Alanna -- Song of The Lioness, Daine -- Immortals, Kel -- Protector of the Small) and a 2 book series (Ali -- Daughter of the Lioness/Tricksters).
Have you read all of these? And if so is there a certain order you would recommend reading them in?
I have read them all. The series with Terrier is a prequel to the others. So, chronologically, you could start with it, then the others in the order I listed. She wrote them in the order Alanna, Daine, Kel, Ali, and then Beka.
I've read and re-read. I think you need Alanna before Kel and before Ali. Other than that, it doesn't matter a lot (but sometimes lets you get little things).
