Steve Goodreads is having problems with recommendations right now, so sorry for not recommending these the usual way. You might try:

'Theft of Swords' by Michael J. Sullivan
'Furies of Calderon' by Jim Butcher
'Assassin's Apprentice' by Robin Hobb
'The Lies of Locke Lamora' by Scott Lynch

I hope one of those sounds promising. :-)

Rose Steve thank you so much for taking the time to recommend these books :D
I've read the Assassin's Apprentice and liked it.. I'll check out all the other books you mentioned as well. Thanks again! :)

Steve You're very welcome. :-) Definitely check out Michael J. Sullivan's Theft of Swords; I just finished the series that it begins ("The Riyria Revelations") a few days ago, and absolutely *loved* it. Among its many other virtues, the series is complete, so you needn't wait on books that might not be published for years.

I see you just rated Jacqueline Carey's first 'Terre d'Ange" trilogy. Great series, one of my favorites. :-)

Rose Sure, will do!!
Yes I enjoyed the series very much!
To be honest I really like strong female leads and it took me a while to accept Phedre as the heroine (frankly there were times that I despised her character very much) but eventually I learned to accept her too and it was a fun read from there :D

Steve I also had some issues with Phedre early on but grew to like her more and more as the series progressed, and thought she proved herself to be a fairly strong heroine by the end... perhaps the more so because of her weaknesses. IMHO, of course. :-)
