Have you read anything by Guy Gavriel Kay? I wouldn't exactly say his books (historical fantasy; often with a romantic thread) are *like* Jacqueline Carey's 'Kushiel' books, but there are some resonances, at least for me. 'Tigana' is probably my favorite of GGK's novels, but they're all good.
