The Strategos Trilogy is set in 11th century AD Byzantium. The tale follows the troubled life of Apion, a Byzantine born into the war-stricken eastern borderlands. The war with the Seljuk Sultanate shapes every aspect of his life, and draws him inexorably towards the plains of Manzikert.
