This is the first short story in Tolkien's book "Tales from the Perilous Realm". I love this short story to peices. I read it to my five year old little sister and she loved it also. Have any of the rest of you read it? What did you think? Which adventure was your favorite.

I loved it, and I especially love that he wrote it for his son after he lost his toy dog. Very sweet!
Yes that is so sweet, he was such a caring father. How many of us make up stories about why little childrens toys go missing hmm?I think I liked Rover's trip to the moon the best.
I listened to the audiobook as read by Derek Jacobi (who did an excellent job). It included some very twee (and as such kind of annoying) music.I think I liked the trip to the moon the best as well, but the time as the toy was kind of cute.
It kind of reminded me of a children's version of the Odyssey. That said, by the end, I was getting a bit annoyed because the adventures tended to follow the same structure each time.
On a different note, I wonder if the writer(s?) of Finding Nemo drew any inspiration from this.
